Hollister, CA, was founded in 1868 on the former Rancho San Justo, named after prominent sheep rancher William Welles Hollister. While Hollister never lived here, his name became synonymous with this thriving agricultural hub, which officially incorporated in 1872 and became the San Benito County seat in 1874.
